Officials Urged to Prepare Accurate Project Estimates

State Legislative Assembly Estimates Committee Chairman Vegulla Jogeswara Rao has called on officials to prepare detailed and accurate estimates before undertaking development projects and to ensure the efficient use of Central and State funds. He said that success is possible only when estimates reflect actual field conditions and local needs.

Committee members Yeluri Sambasiva Rao, Nimmaka Jaya Krishna, Maddipati Venkata Raju, P. Suryanarayana Raju, and Varudu Kalyani visited Visakhapatnam on Wednesday and met officials from various departments at the district collectorate. They reviewed development works carried out during 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22, discussing project estimates, expenditures, and operational challenges.

Collector M N Harendhira Prasad and department officials briefed the committee on ongoing projects and district status. Chairman Rao stressed that accurate estimates would ensure smooth execution, prevent delays, and allow timely use of funds. He suggested uploading bills immediately after project completion.

Officials detailed works in the primary, secondary, and service sectors. The committee advised completing unfinished NREGA buildings, repairing the Meghadrigedda reservoir, and transferring it to GVMC for drinking water supply. Members also emphasized improving village connectivity, ensuring electricity for SC communities under the Babu Jagjeevan Jyothi Scheme, prioritizing public health, and implementing government welfare programs effectively.

MLC Varudu Kalyani raised concerns over a recent power outage at KGH, while MLC P. Suryanarayana Raju requested recruitment of civil surgeon assistants and a cancer test centre in the city. Collector Prasad noted that the Meghadrigedda reservoir is vital for GVMC’s water supply and urged government intervention for repairs and funding.

The meeting was attended by AP Legislative Assembly Deputy Secretary Raj Kumar, Joint Collector K. Mayur Ashok, Visakhapatnam RDO Sudhasagar, VMRDA Joint Commissioner Ramesh Babu, CE Vinay Kumar, GVMC ADC Verma, and officials from multiple departments.
