Over-speeding to invite ₹1,000 fine in city
The city traffic police will initiate stringent action against motorists violating prescribed speed limits within the police commissionerate limits, Traffic Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Praveen Kumar said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Police Commissionerate here, Mr. Kumar said the rising number of road accidents and fatalities in the city was largely due to over-speeding. As part of efforts to curb the trend, Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi has provided three laser speed guns to the traffic wing for stricter enforcement.
According to officials, speed limits have been fixed across key stretches in the city. These include 50 kmph from E-Marripalem to Kurmannapalem Junction, 40 kmph from Aganampudi to Kommadi, and 50 kmph from Kommadi to Rajapulova. A maximum speed of 60 kmph has been prescribed on the national highway stretch from Rajapulova to Pinagadi Junction near Pendurthi.
The speed limit has also been set at 50 kmph from Pendurthi to Gopalapatnam Baji Junction and 40 kmph from Baji Junction to the RTC Complex. On Beach Road, from Coastal Battery to Bheemili, as well as on all municipal roads within city limits, the maximum permissible speed is 40 kmph. From Convent Junction to Sheelanagar, the limit is 50 kmph.
Mr. Kumar said vehicles found exceeding the speed limits would be captured using laser speed guns, and e-challans carrying a fine of ₹1,000 would be issued to the registered owners.
He emphasised that regulating vehicle speed was crucial to reducing road accidents and urged motorists to strictly adhere to the notified limits.
Traffic ACP Vasudev and Traffic CI Prabhakar were among those present.
