Pattadar passbooks to carry only State emblem: Speaker

State Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu on Thursday announced that pattadar passbooks issued to farmers will no longer carry photographs of political leaders and will instead feature only the official State emblem.

Addressing a programme organised by the Revenue Department for the distribution of new pattadar passbooks at the Narsipatnam market yard, the Speaker said the move was aimed at correcting irregularities in the revenue system and restoring the credibility of land records.

He said that during the past five years, passbooks were issued in an unregulated manner, leading to inconvenience for farmers. Land documents that reflect family ownership over generations should not contain political imagery, he said, adding that the coalition government had decided to put an end to the practice.

Mr. Ayyannapatrudu said the new passbooks incorporate modern technology to improve transparency and security. Each passbook will have a QR code which, when scanned using a smartphone, will display complete land details. This system, he said, would help prevent tampering of records and curb illegal land registrations.

The Speaker said a comprehensive land re-survey is currently underway across all 175 Assembly constituencies in the State and assured that errors would be corrected to protect farmers’ interests.

In Narsipatnam alone, 16,209 pattadar passbooks were prepared in a single day. He added that farmers would no longer need to visit revenue offices repeatedly, as the passbooks would be delivered to villages through the village and ward secretariats.
