Pink Month Awareness Program Highlights Need for Early Breast Cancer Detection
Highlighting the importance of women’s health at the grassroots level, Advocate Divya Prasad, wife of the Visakhapatnam District Collector, called for increased awareness of breast cancer, especially among women in rural areas.
Speaking at the Pink Month breast cancer awareness program organized by the Medical Oncology Department at King George Hospital (KGH), she emphasized the life-saving impact of early detection and regular health check-ups.
She urged women to undergo comprehensive medical tests at least once a year and to pay attention to any symptoms, no matter how minor. “A healthy woman means a healthy family. Women should take charge of their health and encourage those around them to do the same,” she said.
KGH Superintendent Dr. I. Vani highlighted that the hospital is offering all types of medical tests for women free of cost as part of the awareness initiative. This includes mammograms and other diagnostic procedures, which are crucial for early diagnosis and timely treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. K. Bujji Babu, Head of the Radiology Department, stressed that early detection leads to more effective treatment. He encouraged women to take advantage of the free facilities at KGH and underlined the importance of regular screenings. During the program, he also visited patients in the Medical Oncology Department to check on their well-being and the quality of care being provided.
The event also recognized the efforts of key contributors, including Dr. K. Shilpa, Divya Prasad, and Dr. I. Vani, in promoting women’s health awareness. The program concluded with the release of pink balloons outside the CSR Block, symbolizing hope, solidarity, and the fight against breast cancer.
