Prasanna Kumar D. Elected ICAI President for 2026–27
Chartered accountant Prasanna Kumar D. has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the 2026–27 term, the institute announced on Thursday. He succeeds Charanjot Singh Nanda. Mangesh Pandurang Kinare has been elected vice-president.
As the 74th president, Prasanna Kumar will chair ICAI’s standing committees, including the executive, finance, disciplinary, and examination committees, and serve as an ex officio member of its non-standing committees. He will also assume charge as editor-in-chief of The Chartered Accountant journal.
In his new role, he will head the Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF) and XBRL India, besides overseeing welfare funds such as CABF, CASBF, and the S. Vaidyanath Aiyar Memorial Fund. He will additionally serve as director on the boards of the Institute of Social Auditors of India (ISAI), ICAI Registered Valuers Organisation (ICAI RVO), The Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI), and the ICAI International ADR Centre.
A fellow member of ICAI, Prasanna Kumar, qualified as a chartered accountant in 1984. His leadership journey began with student initiatives at SICASA. He later served on the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) from 2007 to 2016 and was its chairman in 2013–14. He also served as chairman of the Visakhapatnam Branch of ICAI in 2001–02.
