Pregnant Woman Carried in Dolly for Kilometres Amid Poor Road Conditions in Pedakota Panchayat

A pregnant woman had to be carried over several kilometres in a dolly (makeshift stretcher) to reach a hospital on Wednesday, exposing the severe lack of road facilities in the remote Pedakota Gram Panchayat of Ananthagiri mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district

Korra Janaki, a resident of Chintalapalem village, went into acute labor pains. With no vehicle able to navigate the rough terrain, her family first transported her in a dolly for about a kilometre. Near Busiputtu, where there was no proper road and floodwaters from heavy rains were flowing down the hillside, she had to be carried manually for another kilometre.

“She was slipping and we feared for her life,” said one of her family members. “We had no choice but to carry her manually through the floodwaters.”

Janaki was later placed back in a dolly and transported four kilometres to Kondibhakota, crossing the raging Gedda stream with great difficulty. From there, a feeder ambulance finally took her via the Regullapalem main road to the hospital.

Villagers expressed deep frustration at the lack of infrastructure. We have been facing these difficulties for years. The authorities must provide proper road access immediately,” said a resident of Chintalapalem.

The incident underscores the urgent need for road development in remote areas of the mandal, with local residents warning that similar life-threatening situations could arise in the future if proper infrastructure is not provided.
