Pro Kabaddi League brings Telugu Titans to GITAM University
Kabaddi fever gripped GITAM University as the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12 brought the Telugu Titans closer to their fans in a special engagement event on campus. Students got to meet their favourite players and interact with E. Prasad Rao, Technical Director of PKL, and Arun Karthik, Assistant Dean of GITAM.
The session opened with a conversation between Rao and Karthik, touching on the rise of kabaddi, the importance of nurturing sports at the university level, and the league’s role in shaping young athletes.
“Kabaddi is not just a sport, it is our culture and identity. From a village pastime to a global spectacle, the transformation has been remarkable thanks to PKL. The day is not far when India will win an Olympic gold in kabaddi,” Rao said, adding with a laugh, “If you want to be a crorepati, join the Pro Kabaddi League.”
Students, especially members of the kabaddi club, posed questions to the players about life as professionals and shared their passion for the sport. Telugu Titans skipper Vijay Malik spoke about his personal journey. “I come from a small village, and kabaddi has transformed my life. The recognition we enjoy today feels like a dream. More importantly, it has given us the strength to support our families,” he said.
The event also featured quiz sessions and fun games with the players, making it a lively afternoon for the students. Organisers said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the bond between the league and its fans while encouraging youngsters to take to the mat.
