Property offences decline in Visakhapatnam in September

The number of property offences reported in the city declined in September 2025, with 79 cases registered, compared to 105 cases in August and 100 in July. The City Police attributed the fall to intensified preventive measures and focused surveillance.

As per instructions of the Commissioner of Police, special teams were constituted under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes). The teams adopted technical tools and multi-angle investigation processes. During the month, 56 cases were detected and 64 persons were arrested. Property valued at Rs 46.05 lakh was recovered, the police said.

Additionally, 427 missing mobile phones, valued at Rs 64.05 lakh, were traced and restored to their owners. With this, the total value of recovered property during the month stood at Rs 1.10 crore. Police also stated that, to date, 7,591 mobile phones worth Rs 11.39 crore have been recovered.

Of the 56 detected cases, one involved dacoity, while others comprised three housebreakings by day, four housebreakings by night, 12 snatching cases, 12 motorcycle thefts, one wire theft, two cattle thefts and 21 cases of ordinary theft.

In terms of preventive measures, 257 CCTV cameras were installed in various localities in September. Officers conducted 202 awareness meetings to inform residents about crime trends and the importance of surveillance systems. Special patrols were deployed in crime-prone areas, and drone surveillance continues in isolated locations.
