Rathotsavam marks penultimate Brahmotsavam day in Tirupati
The ‘Rathotsavam’ (car festival), a key highlight of the Brahmotsavam, drew large crowds at the Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple near Tirupati on Sunday (February 15, 2026).
Temple priests led the rituals during the auspicious hours. They placed the processional deities of the Lord, along with His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, on the richly decorated chariot. The chariot, adorned with flowers and traditional motifs, moved through the temple streets.
“The Rathotsavam carries immense spiritual significance,” priests said. “It symbolises the Lord’s celestial journey among devotees. Moreover, pulling the chariot is considered an act of devotion. It is believed to bring prosperity and well-being.”
Meanwhile, Mangala Vayidyam filled the air. Devotees chanted ‘Govinda Govinda’ with fervour. Soon, hundreds of devotees pulled the massive ropes tied to the chariot. As a result, the procession gathered momentum amid devotional enthusiasm.
In addition, members of cultural organisations participated actively. Bhajan troupes performed Kolatam and Chekka Bhajan ahead of the chariot. Their rhythmic performances added colour and energy to the celebrations.
Temple authorities, meanwhile, ensured smooth arrangements. They provided special queues, drinking water, and medical aid. Security personnel regulated the crowd to avoid congestion.
Later in the evening, the deity appeared in a warrior attire. The Aswa Vahanam procession then moved through the streets. “The Aswa Vahanam symbolises valour and divine protection,” officials said. Consequently, large crowds gathered again to witness the event.
The Brahmotsavam will conclude on Monday with the Chakrasnanam, marking the ceremonial end of the annual festivities.
