Republic Day at VPA Highlights Expansion Plans
Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) marked the 77th Republic Day at the Port Stadium on Sunday. Chairperson M. Angamuthu unfurled the National Flag. The CISF unit presented a Guard of Honour, and he inspected the parade.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Angamuthu said the port continues to play a key role in the maritime sector through PPP projects, O&M models, and renewable energy initiatives.
He said VPA is investing in infrastructure in line with the Prime Minister’s Viksit Bharat vision, in coordination with the Andhra Pradesh government. Some cargo operations will be shifted to Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district. VPA is also associated with the proposed shipbuilding project at Dugarajapatnam.
The port has handled over 82 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo and expects to reach 90 MMT this year and 100 MMT next year, with support from PPP operators, BOT partners, and employees.
Projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore are in the pipeline during 2025–26 to strengthen port systems and support regional development. VPA has extensive rail connectivity and strong road links for cargo movement. Dr. Angamuthu urged employees to maintain standards and set national benchmarks.
Celebrations included cultural programmes and CISF security demonstrations such as firearms drills and sniffer dog displays. An arms exhibition and a departmental tableau parade were also held.
Awards and citations were presented to employees and stakeholders. The Chairperson thanked CISF officials, officers, staff, stakeholders, and trade partners for their support.
