Sri Ramanarayanam Temple to Host First-Ever Legal Conclave on the Ramayana

The Valmiki Research Centre of the Sri Ramanarayanam Temple will host the first-ever legal conclave on the Ramayana on September 20. The event aims to connect ancient wisdom with contemporary law, bringing together judges, scholars, and legal professionals from across India.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Temple trustee Narayanam Srinivas said, “The day-long conference will highlight how the morals and ethics taught in the Ramayana reflect the core values of the Indian Constitution. Discussions will cover governance, justice, public administration, morality, rights, and other aspects of Lord Rama’s rule, and their relevance to today’s society.”

Three judges from the Andhra Pradesh High Court — Justice K. Lakshman, Justice T. Madhavi Devi, and Justice Surepalli Nanda — are expected to participate. They will share insights on how lessons from the epic can guide modern legal and administrative practices.

Valmiki Research Centre director Hanumanthu Lajapathirai added, “Over five lakh advocates and legal professionals will be able to watch the proceedings via live stream, making this a landmark event. Our aim is to encourage a broader conversation about ethics, leadership, and justice in today’s society.”

Academic coordinator Nithya Narayanam said, “The Centre has secured affiliation with the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, and will soon offer courses on Sanskrit literature, ethics, and governance. This conclave is part of our ongoing efforts to demonstrate the contemporary relevance of classical texts.”

Thavasmi scholars A. Sarada Deepthi and K. Jahnavi Reddy noted that exploring the Ramayana in the context of law and governance can inspire legal professionals, students, and policymakers to reflect on moral and ethical decision-making. Organisers said the conclave will feature panel discussions, lectures, and interactive sessions, giving participants the chance to engage directly with judges and scholars on how timeless principles can inform modern society.
