State’s first mobile water testing lab launched in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam on Thursday witnessed the launch of the State’s first Mobile Water Testing Laboratory, aimed at strengthening public health and ensuring the supply of safe drinking water.
The mobile laboratory vehicle, procured at a cost of ₹40 lakh with support from the CSR funds of the Visakhapatnam Water Supply Company (VIWSCO), was handed over to the District Medical and Health Office (DMHO). It was later entrusted to the GVMC drinking water supply department for regular operation and maintenance.
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg flagged off the vehicle at his official residence, along with GVMC Chief Engineer P.V. Satyanarayana.
Inspecting the laboratory setup and the advanced testing equipment installed in the vehicle, the Commissioner said the initiative marked an important step in safeguarding public health. He noted that trained professional chemists would be deployed in the mobile laboratory to conduct scientific analysis of water samples.
The vehicle will visit residential localities across all wards of the city, allowing citizens to get their drinking water tested on the spot and assess its safety.
Superintending Engineers Pallamaraju and Yedukondalu, Executive Engineers Murali Krishna and Srinivas, and other GVMC officials were present at the programme.
