Students Explore Railway Technology at Electric Loco Shed, Visakhapatnam
Sixty students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Waltair, visited the Electric Loco Shed (ELS) in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday for a hands-on technical study tour. The visit was organized by the Personnel Branch of the Waltair Division and led by Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (TRS) B. Shanmukha Rao, offering students an up-close look at the operations that keep the railway network running smoothly.
Divided into six groups, the students explored different sections of the Electric Loco Shed, a vital facility for locomotive maintenance. Senior Section Engineers and technical staff guided them through various demonstrations, providing insights into the technologies that power the rail system.
The students showed great interest during the tour, asking insightful questions about railway technology, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols. Shanmukha Rao also provided a detailed session explaining how the shed’s operations contribute to the overall efficiency of the railway system.
“We’re thrilled by the students’ enthusiasm to learn about the technical aspects of our work,” said Shanmukha Rao. “This visit gave them a chance to witness firsthand how we ensure the safety and punctuality of trains.”
At the end of the tour, students and teachers alike expressed their gratitude to the ELS staff for their thorough explanations and interactive demonstrations. The school principal highlighted the value of such educational experiences, noting that the visit had sparked a growing interest in technology and engineering among the students.
“We’re very grateful for this opportunity,” said the principal. “This exposure to a well-organized system has motivated our students to explore careers in technology and engineering.”
