Swarna Bharati Stadium Reopens with Modern Upgrade

The Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium in the city centre reopened on Tuesday after modernisation works costing Rs 16.90 crore. Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, Mayor Pilla Srinivasa Rao, and Visakhapatnam North MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju inaugurated the facility.

Mr. Sribharat said the upgraded stadium is a major addition to the city’s sports infrastructure. The venue is now ready to host national and international tournaments. He said the renovation has improved facilities and assured that maintenance would not place a burden on sportspersons.

The upgrade includes central air conditioning, new seating, modern firefighting systems, six badminton courts, seating for 1,750 spectators, and a full CCTV surveillance system.

Mr. Vishnu Kumar Raju said the fully equipped indoor stadium would benefit local athletes and encourage young people to take up sports. He added that sports are important for health and overall development.

District Collector Harendhira Prasad, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, Deputy Mayor D. Govind Reddy, corporators, municipal officials, sports association representatives, and sportspersons attended the event.
