Swift Railway Response Helps Passenger Deliver Healthy Baby

A 24-year-old pregnant passenger successfully delivered a healthy baby in a railway ambulance at Visakhapatnam Railway Station yesterday, prompting commendation from Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra for the medical team’s swift and coordinated response.

The passenger, a second-gravida woman approximately 33 to 34 weeks pregnant, was traveling on train number 22838 when she experienced severe abdominal pain. Upon examination, doctors noted signs of preeclampsia, with her blood pressure dangerously high at $180/100$ mmHg. She was found to be in active labor, and the fetal heart rate was steady at 148 beats per minute.

When the train arrived at Visakhapatnam station at approximately 11:40 p.m., the passenger was immediately transferred to an ambulance waiting at Gate 1. Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Bhashini Priyanka and her team performed a normal vaginal delivery at 11:57 p.m. The newborn began crying immediately and was declared healthy.

Following the birth, both mother and baby were stabilized at the Railway Hospital. They were subsequently transferred to King George Hospital for continued observation under the supervision of Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. D. Sharath Babu.
