Symposium highlights advances in peptide science

Prof. K. N. Ganesh, senior scientist at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, said peptide-based medicines are playing a growing role in the management and diagnosis of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cancer, and several rare disorders.

He was addressing the 5th Student IPS Symposium at GITAM Deemed to be University, jointly organised by the GITAM School of Science, the GITAM School of Pharmacy, and the Indian Peptide Society (IPS).

Prof. Ganesh said peptides are gaining importance in targeted drug delivery and next-generation vaccines. He noted that advances in computational science, including the use of quantum computing, are enabling faster and more precise design of therapeutic molecules. He also referred to emerging research hubs such as Amaravati Quantum Valley.

Dean of the GITAM School of Science Prof. S. Anantha Rama Krishna said the university has invested nearly Rs 100 crore in research infrastructure.

Prof. L. Srinivas, Principal of the GITAM School of Pharmacy, highlighted the advantages of peptide-based drug delivery systems and said nearly 100 peptide drugs have received global approvals, with many more in clinical trials.

GIMSR Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. B. Geetanjali and Registrar Prof. D. Gunasekharan participated. Eminent scientists delivered lectures, stressing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
