TDP Alleges Diversion by YSRCP in Tirumala Ghee Controversy
The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday intensified its criticism of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), accusing it of attempting to divert attention from the alleged adulterated ghee controversy linked to the preparation of Tirumala laddu prasadam.
Addressing a press conference, TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao said findings reportedly emerging from a CBI inquiry pointed to what he described as serious administrative failures under the previous YSRCP government. He argued that the alleged use of adulterated ghee was not merely a procedural lapse but an issue affecting the sanctity of prasadam offered to millions of devotees.
“The laddu prasadam is sacred. Any compromise in its purity is deeply concerning,” Mr. Rao said.
He alleged that former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and senior YSRCP leaders attempted to shape a narrative of exoneration instead of pursuing transparent corrective measures. According to Mr. Rao, the controversy gained wider attention after sections of the national media, religious leaders, priests, and devotees sought clarity.
Mr. Rao also accused the YSRCP of dragging Heritage Foods into the debate as a diversionary tactic. He dismissed allegations that the company supplied adulterated ghee to Tirumala, describing them as speculative and unsupported by documentary evidence.
Referring to legal developments, he cited reports that the Delhi High Court directed the removal of allegedly defamatory online content. He added that Heritage Foods had issued a legal notice to senior YSRCP leader Botsa Satyanarayana, seeking an apology.
The TDP leader further referred to statements attributed to former TTD Chairman Y. V. Subba Reddy acknowledging irregularities. He maintained that accountability must be determined through institutional processes.
The YSRCP has not yet issued a detailed response. Investigations are continuing.
