TDP welcomes cut in fuel excise duty
The coalition government has welcomed the Union government’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel, with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State president Palla Srinivasa Rao describing it as a timely and people-centric measure.
In a statement issued on Friday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the decision would provide relief to households, small businesses, and the transport sector, which have been facing pressure due to rising fuel costs. He said the move would also have a positive cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities by easing transportation costs.
He said the Centre’s intervention, at a time of global economic uncertainty, reflected its commitment to public welfare. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the decision underscored leadership marked by foresight and resolve, particularly in balancing fiscal considerations with the needs of citizens.
Noting that several countries have passed on the impact of rising global fuel prices to consumers, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said India’s decision to prioritise relief for its people stood out and reflected the NDA government’s citizen-first approach. He observed that leadership is tested during periods of uncertainty and said the Centre’s calibrated responses have helped maintain economic stability and reinforce public confidence.
Commending Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said the State government has consistently worked to balance welfare priorities with fiscal prudence. He added that the prompt endorsement of the Centre’s decision, along with measures to ensure that its benefits reach the people of Andhra Pradesh, reflects a responsive and efficient governance model.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the State in addressing economic challenges. He said such cooperation would be crucial in sustaining growth, supporting welfare programmes, and ensuring that the benefits of policy decisions reach all sections of society.
Emphasising that reducing the financial burden on citizens remains a priority, he said the coalition government would continue to focus on measures that promote inclusive development. He added that the NDA government’s consistent prioritisation of public interest continues to serve as a benchmark for governance in the country.
