Teachers are the foundation of social development: Collector

District Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar on Friday said that teachers are the backbone of social development and have the power to shape responsible citizens.

He was addressing the Guru Pujotsavam organised by the District Education Department at a local coffee house. The programme began with students singing Vande Mataram and devotional songs, followed by the garlanding of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s portrait and the lighting of the lamp by the Collector, former legislator Giddi Ishwari, District Revenue Officer P. Padmalatha, and District Education Officer P. Brahmaji.

The Collector said teachers will always be respected as role models. He emphasised the need to provide education rooted in discipline and moral values. He called for analytical and student-centric teaching methods that build confidence and remove fear. Highlighting the role of Anganwadi workers, he said they too are teachers and their skills would be upgraded. “Let us all work together to achieve the best results in the upcoming Class 10 examinations,” he added.

Former legislator Giddi Ishwari said it was special to celebrate Guru Pujotsavam on Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary. She congratulated teachers, expressed pride in being both a tribal woman and a teacher, and encouraged meditation as a way to stay healthy and stress-free.

District Revenue Officer P. Padmalatha said the occasion was a reminder to follow Dr. Radhakrishnan’s ideals of discipline and values in education. Trikar Director Krishna Rao said governments were strengthening ashram schools and noted that teachers alone have the power to mould good citizens by imparting values along with academics and sports.

On the occasion, the best teachers were felicitated with certificates of appreciation and mementos. Students from various schools performed cultural programmes.

District Education Office Assistant Director Balakrishna, former MPP Burra Vijaya Rani, Deputy Education Officers, Mandal Education Officers, teachers, and parents also took part in the event.
