Tribal Protest in GK Veedhi Over Alleged Medical Negligence
Tension prevailed in Kadugula village of GK Veedhi mandal after tribal residents staged a protest, alleging that medical negligence at the Chintapalli Community Health Hospital resulted in the death of an unborn child.
Family members of Kalyani, a pregnant woman from Kadugula village under Rintada panchayat, claimed she was admitted to the maternity waiting home attached to the hospital on February 5 after experiencing labour pains. They alleged that despite being under observation for several days, doctors failed to make timely decisions regarding delivery.
According to relatives, Kalyani developed severe labour pain on Sunday night, but adequate medical intervention was not provided. Villagers further alleged that delivery procedures were delayed even as her condition worsened. The prolonged delay reportedly led to a complete reduction of amniotic fluid, placing the foetus at serious risk.
Kalyani was eventually referred to the Government Hospital in Narsipatnam at a critical stage. Doctors there reportedly informed the family that the delayed referral had resulted in intrauterine foetal death, relatives said.
Angered by the incident, tribal residents organised a protest, accusing the healthcare system in agency areas of chronic neglect and inadequate medical response. Protesters demanded an immediate inquiry by district health authorities, strict action against those found responsible, and compensation for the affected family.
Hospital sources stated that an official response would be issued following a preliminary inquiry. District medical and health officials are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit a report soon.
