TTD, Tourism Department plan to promote Tirupati as Hindu wedding hub

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department will partner with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to promote Tirumala, Tirupati, and Tiruchanoor as top destinations for Hindu weddings. The project will combine traditional rituals with modern amenities to attract families from India and abroad.

Officials said interest is increasing, especially from Telugu NRIs and Hindu families overseas. Many prefer conducting weddings in Tirupati’s sacred and cultural setting. The initiative also supports Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of making Tirupati one of India’s leading wedding hubs.

TTD currently manages more than 25 Kalyana Mandapams. The Tourism Department operates a convention-cum-marriage hall at the Urban Hut in Tirupati. In addition, there are over 100 private marriage halls, giving the temple town strong infrastructure to host large-scale ceremonies.

District Collector S. Venkateswar has suggested two-day wedding packages at TTD halls and APTDC venues. “This initiative will boost tourism-led growth while giving families cost-effective options,” he said.

Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has extended support. He said the project would “combine traditional Hindu rituals with the convenience of modern facilities.” Officials added that a formal tie-up between the Tourism Department and TTD is under consideration.

Local reactions have been mixed. “Weddings here will create more opportunities for local businesses and generate jobs,” said Ramesh Babu, a hotelier in Tirupati.

Some residents worry about congestion. “Traffic and amenities are already stretched during pilgrim rush. Destination weddings may add to the strain,” said Padmavathi, a schoolteacher.

For many NRIs, the plan is a relief. “We always wanted my daughter’s wedding in Tirupati, but arrangements were difficult earlier. If packaged options are available, it will be much easier,” said Venkata Subba Rao, an NRI visiting from the U.S.

Officials said certified tourism service providers will manage catering, accommodation, and logistics. They believe this will ensure a smooth experience for families and guests. The plan is also expected to strengthen Tirupati’s position as a unique Hindu wedding destination and boost the local economy.
