Two arrested in Visakhapatnam roof burglary case; ₹2.52 lakh recovered
Duvvada Crime Police have arrested two men for a burglary at a battery and inverter shop in Kurmannapalem. The accused broke cement roof sheets to enter the premises at night and stole cash. Police recovered ₹2,52,500 along with tools used in the offence.
The arrested were identified as Gurram Akhil alias Manikanta, 32, of Tadepalligudem, West Godavari district, and Savarala Bhanu Prakash, 28, of Thummalavaripalli in Sri Sathya Sai district. A screwdriver, cutting plier, and wrench were seized from them. Police said Akhil has around 12 theft cases registered against him in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while Bhanu Prakash faces seven similar cases. Both were allegedly driven by addiction and the intent to make quick money.
According to police, Atikamshetty Paidiraju and his friend Avirreddy Krishna have been running Sachiv Inverters & Battery Agencies at Kurmannapalem for nearly a decade. The shop was closed around 10 pm on April 9, 2026. On the morning of April 10, the complainant found the cement sheet on the roof broken and the shop burgled. The table drawer was damaged and about ₹2.75 lakh kept for bank deposit was missing.
Based on the complaint, South Crime Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Special teams were formed under ACP (Crimes) A. Narasimha Murthy and South Crime Inspector K. Srinivasa Rao.
Using technical evidence and credible inputs, police traced and arrested the accused on April 16, 2026 near KBC Heights Apartments. Bhanu Prakash had allegedly provided shelter to the co-accused and facilitated the crime. Police Commissioner Dr. Sankhabrata Bagchi, IPS, appreciated the teams for the swift detection.
