Varex Imaging opens advanced manufacturing unit at AMTZ

Global medical‑imaging leader Varex Imaging Corporation inaugurated a new manufacturing facility at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) on the final day of the World Health Innovation Forum 2025.

The unit, unveiled by Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, and Rajiv Nath of Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd., will produce flat-panel detectors and advanced imaging components, including Cesium Iodide (CsI) coating – a first for India.

The plant is expected to decrease the country’s reliance on imported imaging parts and enhance its position in the global supply chain. Varex designs essential components – X‑ray tubes, digital detectors, image‑processing software, and high‑voltage accessories – that are crucial to X‑ray, CT, and fluoroscopy systems worldwide.

“Varex’s decision to manufacture core imaging components in India reflects growing confidence in the nation’s precision‑manufacturing capabilities,” said AMTZ Founder‑CEO Jitendra Sharma. “It will build local expertise, nurture a supplier ecosystem and create skilled jobs.”

Varex CEO Sunny Sanyal added that India is central to the company’s long‑term growth strategy. “The AMTZ facility will help localise critical technologies, improve supply‑chain resilience and serve domestic and global customers more efficiently.”

Vivek Phalle, Managing Director and Country Head, India, emphasized the plant’s alignment with the Make in India initiative, noting it will support Indian equipment manufacturers and expand access to advanced diagnostic imaging across the country.

Spun off from Varian Medical Systems in 2017, Varex operates across North America, Europe and Asia, supplying imaging technologies for healthcare, dental, veterinary, security and industrial applications. The inauguration underscores India’s ambition to become a global hub for medical‑device manufacturing, innovation and exports.
