Variety of Pets Bring Warmth and Joy to GITAM Campus

GITAM (Deemed to be University) hosted a lively pet show on Saturday. Students and faculty members brought pets of different breeds and sizes. The event, organised under the Directorate of Student Life, created a warm and friendly atmosphere. Pets and their owners sparked conversations and interactions across the campus.

Participants spoke about the joy, companionship, and emotional support their pets bring to daily life. Many shared stories about care, bonding, and responsibility. The event was engaging and meaningful for everyone present.

The programme supported the Ministry of Education’s call to raise awareness about animal welfare among students. Organisers said that empathy and compassion towards animals help develop personal growth and promote a humane society.

Addressing the gathering, Associate Dean (Student Life) Dr. Arun Karthik said the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The policy encourages social-emotional learning and character development. He announced that GITAM will form an Animal Welfare Society (AWS). The society will promote responsible care for animals and sustainable living. Its activities will follow the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on well-being, climate action, responsible consumption, and protecting life on land.

“At GITAM, we want students to understand the value of caring for all forms of life. Events like this help build emotional maturity and ethical thinking,” Dr. Karthik said.

The event ended on a cheerful note. Participants reaffirmed the importance of showing kindness and respect to animals. Organisers said similar awareness programmes will continue in the coming months.
