Veteran Naval Officers Conquer 10,000-Nautical-Mile Voyage

In a remarkable display of endurance and seamanship, veteran naval officers C.D.N.V. Prasad and Kolsani Srinivas completed a six-month journey covering 10,000 nautical miles from New Zealand to India aboard their ocean-cruising yacht, Tystie. They arrived in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

A flag-in ceremony at the naval base celebrated the successful conclusion of their epic voyage, which was presided over by Vice Admiral Kudravalli Srinivas.

The two officers, who were classmates at Sainik School Korukonda and later course mates at the National Defence Academy in Khadakvasla, shared that their passion for sailing was ignited during their time at the academy.

Their journey began on May 13 in Opua, New Zealand, with their first major stop at Port Noro in the Solomon Islands, after covering 1,150 nautical miles through Fiji. Despite rough seas near the Solomons that caused Prasad to injure his knee, they continued their trip, leaving Port Blair on October 14 and finally arriving in Visakhapatnam on November 20.

Vice Admiral K. Srinivas commended their achievement during the ceremony, calling it “an inspiration to all” and praising them for upholding the proud tradition of venturing into the oceans.
