Vigilance inquiry gathers pace at Andhra University

The Vigilance Department has intensified its probe into alleged irregularities at Andhra University, widening its focus to cover administrative decisions, appointments, and financial transactions made during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure.

Vigilance teams have been stationed on the campus for several weeks, collecting records and examining files across key departments. Inspections have already been completed in Finance and Engineering, with officials questioned on approvals, file movements, and adherence to procedures.

“The inquiry is comprehensive and evidence-based. We are verifying decisions, appointments, and transactions to establish whether due process was followed,” a senior official familiar with the investigation said.

Investigators are examining allegations of irregular appointments and admissions, including PhD admissions reportedly conducted under the “TDR Hub” initiative. Claims that certain positions were granted in deviation from norms are also being reviewed.

“We are analysing documentation related to appointments and admissions. Statements are being recorded to corroborate the records,” another source said.

Around 20 vigilance officials, working in five teams, are conducting the probe. Principals, heads of departments (HODs), deans, and senior administrators have been questioned as part of the exercise. Sources indicated that key inputs have been obtained from at least two principals.

The inquiry is covering a range of issues, including alleged discrepancies in PhD admissions, decisions taken without due procedure, financial transaction irregularities, and the fire accident at the Science College. Allegations relating to file movements and missing records after the change in government, accusations involving a former security officer, and reported environmental concerns, such as the destruction of a forest patch and felling of large trees, are also under examination.

Several officials have reportedly been approached more than once for clarification. The prolonged presence of vigilance teams on campus has sparked discussion within academic and administrative circles.

Vigilance authorities declined to comment officially on the ongoing investigation.
