Visakhapatnam airport to host Yatri Seva Diwas on Sept. 17
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will organise Yatri Seva Diwas at Visakhapatnam International Airport on September 17. The programme aims to improve passenger experience and strengthen AAI’s citizen-centric service initiatives.
Announcing the event at a media conference on Tuesday, Airport Director N. Purushottam said the day will begin at 6.45 a.m. with the lighting of the lamp at the Domestic Arrival Terminal. Quiz and painting competitions for Zilla Parishad schoolchildren are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
As part of an environmental awareness drive, visitors will be encouraged to plant saplings under the Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam initiative on the city side of the terminal building from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
Social responsibility activities will include a blood donation camp, organised with Visakha Blood Bank, at the Departure area from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A free eye check-up camp for taxi and cab aggregator drivers will also be held near the Arrival terminal.
Other attractions such as selfie and photo booths, along with passenger feedback sessions, will be arranged to engage travellers. Schoolchildren will also be taken on a guided airport tour to help them learn about airport facilities.
Replying to questions, Mr. Purushottam said Visakhapatnam Airport registered a 6% rise in passenger traffic in 2024–25 compared to the previous year. He noted that the Visakhapatnam–Abu Dhabi service, operating four days a week since June 13, has been recording strong occupancy.
He added that new flights to Raipur and Bhubaneswar had been launched recently, while efforts are in progress to start services to Goa and Pune.
