Visakhapatnam Collector calls for sectoral growth and development

District Collector MN Harindhira Prasad on Wednesday called on officials to prepare clear plans to make Visakhapatnam a leader in all sectors. At the District Collector Conference, he stressed the importance of following the State Chief Minister’s directives to achieve faster development.

During the review meeting, the Collector shared strategies for development, financial support, income generation, and welfare programs. He urged officials to strengthen the primary sector by improving farmer service centers, expanding horticultural crop areas, establishing new animal husbandry units with DRDA support, and training fishermen to increase productivity.

Tourism is a key priority. Harindhira Prasad asked officials to promote Visakhapatnam as a top destination for two- to three-day stays. He emphasized adventure tourism and water sports. Lands acquired for tourism must be used promptly, or allocations will be canceled.

The Collector highlighted large-scale housing construction as an important source of employment. Officials were instructed to address challenges in education, healthcare, and welfare, including gaps in implementing the Super Six schemes. Entrepreneurship development is another focus, especially awareness campaigns for women self-help groups (SHGs). Training for local entrepreneurs will be provided by Visakhapatnam IAM.

Visakhapatnam has identified 1,05,000 “golden families.” Of these, 64,000 have already been adopted. Secretariat-level meetings will help mentors support these families beyond financial aid.

Other key priorities include modernizing the fishing harbor, acquiring land for MSME parks, preventing bird hazards near the airport, increasing PM Surya Gar enrollment, keeping streets clean, repairing streetlights, and ensuring uninterrupted medical services.

As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, programs will continue until October 2. Tomorrow, all government offices will participate in the “Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” initiative from 8 am to 9 am.

The program was attended by DRO Bhavani Shankar, District Forest Officer, and officials from all departments.
