Visakhapatnam DIG Urges Swift Action Against Ganja Smuggling, Drug Abuse
Visakhapatnam Range DIG Gopinath Jetti has urged stronger measures to tackle the rising issue of ganja trafficking and drug abuse. During his visit to the Narsipatnam Rural Police Station on Saturday, he stressed the importance of increasing surveillance on cannabis transportation routes. He also highlighted the need for better identification of drug users and greater support for rehabilitation centers.
Jetti called for regular counseling sessions for individuals with criminal tendencies, particularly rowdy sheeters. He emphasized that prevention is key to maintaining public safety and urged them to avoid criminal activities. He also highlighted the importance of educating the public about cybercrimes, especially the risks of sharing personal and financial details online.
The DIG reviewed the police station’s records, investigation procedures, and overall facilities. He pointed out the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules to reduce accidents and enhance public safety. Road safety was marked as a critical concern.
On women’s safety, Jetti reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing the FOXO Act and other legal measures aimed at preventing eve-teasing and ragging. He encouraged more awareness of the Shakti app, which plays a key role in protecting women’s rights and ensuring a secure environment. Additionally, he recommended expanding the use of CCTV cameras for crime prevention, criminal identification, and traffic management.
In his concluding remarks, Jetti motivated police personnel to perform their duties with dedication and discipline. He stressed the importance of building strong community relations and staying proactive in crime prevention. The DIG assured officers of his full support and commitment to addressing any concerns.
