Visakhapatnam gears up for 15th annual Durga Puja by UTSAB Cultural Association
Visakhapatnam will come alive as the UTSAB Cultural Association hosts its 15th annual Durga Puja from September 28 to October 2, 2025, at AMCOSA Hall. Since 2011, the festival has grown steadily. Moreover, it has become one of the city’s most vibrant cultural and social events. It attracts not only the Bengali community but also residents from across Visakhapatnam.
Association President David Poddar said, “The name ‘UTSAB’ means festival. Therefore, the rituals reflect our mission to promote culture, creativity, social unity, and welfare. Our Durga Puja is now cherished by both the Bengali community and the wider population. Furthermore, it is more than a religious event; it is a space for cultural exchange and community bonding.”
Similarly, committee member Ashish K. Saha added, “Our Puja is the city’s premier event. Consequently, it unites people from all walks of life to celebrate tradition, culture, and festivity. Every year, participation grows. This growth shows the festival’s wide appeal and spirit of togetherness.”
The five-day celebration begins on September 28 with Shashti. First, the ‘Durga Agomoni’—devotional songs performed by association members—welcomes the goddess. Then, daily rituals will continue, followed by evening cultural programmes. These include music, dance, and drama performed by children, youth, and senior participants. Both classical and contemporary performances ensure that everyone finds something to enjoy.
Additionally, the festival will host competitions in singing, dancing, painting, and other creative activities for all age groups. Moreover, AMCOSA Hall will feature themed decorations, colourful lighting, and intricately crafted idols, creating a festive and divine atmosphere.
Finally, the celebrations conclude on Vijaya Dashami (October 2) with the Visarjan ceremony, marking the goddess’s return to her celestial abode. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Bengali cuisine, handicrafts, and performances by women and children. Altogether, these elements blend tradition with modern creativity, making the festival a complete cultural experience for the entire city.
