Visakhapatnam Police Crack Down on Property Crimes, Recover Rs 1.2 Crore in July
The city police made a major breakthrough in combating property crimes in July, arresting 66 people linked to 64 offences and recovering assets worth around Rs 1.2 crore, Police Commissioner Shankarbhrata Bagchi told the media on Friday.
The recovered items included 250 mobile phones worth Rs 37.5 lakh, 1.26 kg of gold, 1.92 kg of silver, Rs 14.3 lakh in cash, 15 motor cycles, and two cars. Offences ranged from robberies and house break-ins to motor vehicle thefts.
Commissioner Bagchi credited the success to 24/7 vigilance, detailed investigations, and advanced technology, including CCTV cameras, drone surveillance, and the CEIR portal. In July, the police installed 374 CCTV cameras, conducted 138 crime awareness sessions, and intensified day-and-night patrolling.
The Chatbot and CEIR initiative helped recover 250 mobile phones in July alone, bringing the total to 6,784 phones worth Rs 10.17 crore since the program began. Citizens can report stolen or missing mobiles via WhatsApp at 94906 17916 or through the CEIR portal.
Commissioner Bagchi urged residents to stay alert, cooperate with law enforcement, and report suspicious activity to help keep the city safe.
