Visakhapatnam Port Authority observes 63rd National Maritime Day

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Sunday observed the 63rd National Maritime Day, highlighting the crucial role of the maritime sector in global trade and the national economy. The day also honoured seafarers, with the NMD Award of Excellence recognising lifetime contributions to India’s maritime industry.

This year’s celebrations were held under the theme “Maritime India – Empowering Progress.” Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson of VPA, and Smt. Roshni Aparanji Korati, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, along with department heads, laid a wreath in solemn remembrance of seafarers’ sacrifices. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by the VPA tug flotilla.

Shri Arun Prasad, IES, Chief Vigilance Officer, and Shri Rajesh Mittal, DIG, Indian Coast Guard, also paid tributes at the event.

As part of the programme, essay writing and elocution competitions were organised for school students, and winners were felicitated with prizes. Officers and staff of the Marine Department received Letters of Appreciation in recognition of their dedicated service.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from senior officials, department heads, employees, and students, marking a fitting celebration of India’s maritime heritage.
