Visakhapatnam set to unveil country’s longest glass bridge
Visakhapatnam is preparing to add another landmark to its tourism map. A glass skywalk bridge on Kailasagiri, touted as the longest in the country, will soon be opened to the public.
The 55-metre-long structure, being built at a cost of about Rs 7 crore, will offer panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal, the Ramakrishna Beach shoreline, and the Eastern Ghats. Officials say the experience of walking on the transparent floor will feel like “floating in another world.”
Though Kerala already has a floating glass bridge, this is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities expect it to become a major attraction for both domestic and out-of-state visitors once it is operational.
The coalition government has been pushing tourism projects across the State, focusing on beaches, forests, temples, and heritage sites. Kailasagiri, once developed under the TDP regime, was left without new initiatives during the YSRCP government. Recently, sky cycling and ziplining were introduced to draw more visitors. The glass bridge is now being added to enhance the hilltop’s appeal.
Earlier, the spot featured the Titanic View Point, popular for its sweeping sea views before falling into neglect. The new bridge, stretching 50 metres and capable of accommodating up to 40 people at a time, is expected to bring back the charm in a modern form.
Tourists from neighbouring States such as Odisha and West Bengal are already drawn to Visakhapatnam for activities like ropeway rides, cycling, and adventure sports, which have generated steady income for the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). Officials expect the glass bridge to further boost footfall and create fresh employment opportunities for local youth.
“All safety measures have been taken to ensure a secure and pleasant experience for visitors,” said VMRDA Chairman Gopal. He added that the project would strengthen Visakhapatnam’s position as a key tourism hub on both the national and international stage.
