Visakhapatnam to host first-ever Women’s World Cup matches
Visakhapatnam will host five matches of the Women’s World Cup 2025, marking the city’s first-ever entry as a venue for the global cricket tournament. The announcement was made by Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) Secretary Sana Satish Babu during the Women’s World Cup Trophy Presentation Programme held at the Vizag Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Calling the event a “historic milestone” for Vizag, Mr. Satish Babu said, “We are fortunate to host five matches of the Women’s World Cup in Vizag.”
Highlighting the State’s efforts in strengthening sports infrastructure, Mr. Satish Babu referred to the recent Breaking Boundaries with Nara Lokesh programme as proof of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to sports development. He pointed out that the government’s 10-year sports roadmap includes raising the sports quota to 3% and creating more educational and employment opportunities for sportspersons.
He further said that State Education Minister Nara Lokesh has been invited to attend the World Cup’s opening ceremony scheduled for October.
With legendary cricketer Mithali Raj serving as mentor, the ACA plans to open Centres of Excellence that will extend international-level opportunities to rural and school-level players.
“The Women’s World Cup is more than just a tournament. It represents Andhra Pradesh’s sports renaissance. The Visakhapatnam matches will open avenues for sports tourism, employment, and the growth of women players,” Mr. Satish Babu said.
ACA Joint Secretary Vijayakumar, Chief Operating Officer Girish Dongiri, and other officials were also present at the event.
