Visakhapatnam to host Indian Navy’s flagship global events in 2026
Visakhapatnam will host three major Indian Navy events next year, the Eastern Naval Command chief announced on Wednesday. Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla confirmed that the port city will organize the 3rd International Fleet Review, the 13th edition of the MILAN exercise, and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium Conclave of Chiefs. Senior naval leaders from 25 nations are expected to attend.
Speaking to the media aboard INS Himgiri, Bhalla said Visakhapatnam was chosen because it is the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command. He also cited its strategic location on the Bay of Bengal and its ability to manage large international gatherings. The city’s RK Beach could attract up to six lakh people for the parade.
President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the fleet review at sea on 18 February. The event will showcase India’s growing naval strength, including INS Vikrant, Visakhapatnam-class destroyers, Nilgiri-class frigates, and Arnala-class corvettes.
The next evening will feature a city parade and an aerial display by military aircraft.
MILAN 2026 will begin on 18 February as well, under the theme “Camaraderie, Cooperation, and Collaboration”. It will bring together friendly navies for seminars and joint drills at sea and in harbour.
On 20 February, India will host the 9th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium Conclave. This marks the country’s second term as chair of the forum until 2028. Delegations from member states, observers and invited nations will discuss maritime security and cooperation.
Bhalla said India has invited 137 nations, and 61 have confirmed participation so far. Twenty three foreign warships and two aircraft will take part, reinforcing India’s role as a regional security partner.
The Navy is coordinating with national ministries, the state government and local authorities to organise the events. Officials expect Visakhapatnam to benefit through tourism, hospitality and related services.
