Vizag Emerging as IT and Innovation Hub
Andhra Pradesh aims to become a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047. Moreover, it seeks a 10 percent annual GSDP growth under its Swarna Andhra @2047 vision, Bhaskar Katamneni, Secretary of the ITE&C Department, said on Monday.
Speaking at the 28th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2025, he said, “Our vision is to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global technology and innovation hub. Therefore, we are creating green corridors. In addition, we aim to become a net exporter of energy. Furthermore, regulatory clearances will be completed within 21 days.”
He highlighted job creation and skill development. “We plan to establish 175 Nano and MSME parks, generating two million jobs over five years. Also, with 71 percent of our population in the working-age group, we are investing in our 38 million-strong talent pool. Programs like the Naipunyam portal and Skills Passport will bridge the industry-talent gap,” he said.
Mr. Katamneni described Visakhapatnam as “The Blue Edge of IT and Innovation.” He added, “The city ranks 14th among Indian cities. Additionally, it is the fifth most popular tourist destination. Moreover, it is the ninth largest GDP contributor and fifth busiest port. It produces over 20,000 employable graduates annually.” The city hosts IT firms such as Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Concentrix, Infosys, and Adani. Furthermore, research clusters in marine science, biotechnology, petroleum, and environmental studies support R&D-driven industries.
Industry leaders supported the vision. Gaurav Hazra of Cognizant said, “Visakhapatnam has the potential to become a self-reliant city of global relevance.” Similarly, Sharad Aggarwal of Sify Infinite Spaces added, “With government support for ease of business and innovation, IT and emerging technologies in Vizag have immense opportunities.”
Sundari Patibandla of iSprout noted, “Focus on skill development and digital transformation will bridge the industry-talent gap.” Likewise, Vamsi Krishna Jadala of World Trade Centre said, “Research clusters and fintech growth provide a strong foundation for R&D industries.”
Finally, Vamsi Penmecha of Infolob concluded, “Through collaboration between government and industry, Visakhapatnam can become a model city for innovation, technology, and sustainable growth.”
