Vizag on track to become ‘Silicon Coast of India’: APDTI Director

The City of Destiny is fast emerging as one of India’s leading technology hubs. Global tech giants and supportive government policies are driving a new wave of digital growth in Andhra Pradesh.

Sridhar Kosaraju, Director of the APDTI (Digital Technology Industry) Network, said Visakhapatnam is well on its way to becoming the “Silicon Coast of India.” Speaking to The Coastal Times, he said the city is gaining strong interest from international technology firms and major investors.

Referring to a recent discussion between Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Salesforce’s CEO, Mr. Kosaraju said Pichai described Vizag as a beautiful coastal city with huge potential. He noted that Google’s $15-billion AI Data Centre would be a turning point for the region, creating opportunities for innovation, employment, and infrastructure growth.

“The Google Data Centre will be a key anchor. It will bring more global players to Vizag, just as Microsoft’s entry once transformed Hyderabad into a global tech hub,” Mr. Kosaraju said.

He added that Vizag’s submarine cable landings give it an advantage in high-speed data connectivity. This strengthens its position as a preferred location for data centres. TCS is in advanced talks with the State government to establish a 1 GW data centre, while Accenture plans to open a new development centre in the city.

Mr. Kosaraju highlighted the State Cabinet’s revised LIFT policy, which offers land at discounted rates to companies that promise to create jobs within three years. “This policy will boost employment and support balanced economic growth,” he said.

He credited IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh for his proactive role in promoting Vizag as a global technology and innovation hub. “With major investments, forward-looking policies, and world-class digital infrastructure, Vizag is well on track to become the Silicon Coast of India,” Mr. Kosaraju said.
