Vizag Police Lead Student Drive Against Drugs
The city police, in association with the Visakhapatnam City Security Council (VCSC), conducted an awareness seminar for students on Thursday, focusing on the risks and long-term impact of substance abuse.
Police Commissioner and VCSC Chairman Dr. Shankha Brata Bagchi, addressed the session. Around 200 students attended the programme in person, while nearly 650 others joined online.
“Substance abuse causes severe physical, psychological, and social damage. It not only harms health but also derails careers, destroys future opportunities, disrupts families, and weakens society,” Dr. Bagchi said, explaining the consequences of drug use.
Urging students to remain vigilant, he said, “You must make responsible choices and protect your future. One wrong step can have lifelong consequences.”
Calling for greater youth participation, the Commissioner added, “Every student should become a ‘warrior’ against drugs and help spread awareness among peers.” He emphasised that awareness and prevention are key to tackling the menace and called for public cooperation in building a drug-free society.
The programme was organised with the support of the VCSC Coordinator and Joint Secretary (Anti-Narcotics Wing), Pawan Karthik; the VCSC Associate Director, Seema Sikri; the Project Manager, Naveen J.; and the HPCL Skill Development Centre CEO, P. Vijay Kumar.
Officials said the Visakhapatnam City Police and VCSC will continue outreach initiatives to promote a safe, healthy, and drug-free environment in the city.
