VPA Hits Record 90.29 MMT, Sets New Cargo Benchmark

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved its highest-ever annual cargo throughput, handling 90.29 million metric tonnes (MMT) in FY 2025–26. Notably, it reached this milestone in just 362 days, ahead of the financial year’s close.

This performance surpasses the previous record of 82.62 MMT set in 2024–25. As a result, the port has set a new benchmark in its 92-year history.

Officials attribute this growth to faster vessel turnaround and better mechanisation. In addition, stronger coordination among port users and shipping lines played a key role. The port also improved berth planning and increased the use of technology, which boosted overall productivity.

Meanwhile, cargo volumes rose across major segments such as coal, iron ore, petroleum products, and containers. Because of this, the port handled higher volumes more efficiently. Officials further noted that improved logistics and better connectivity supported this growth.

Chairperson M. Angamuthu said the achievement reflects strong teamwork across employees and stakeholders. He also stressed the need to maintain this momentum. Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the port can cross 100 MMT next year.

Similarly, Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji Korati praised the workforce for its consistent performance and efficiency.

Finally, Secretary Sankar Babu highlighted the port’s growing role as a key maritime gateway on the East Coast. He added that it continues to support regional economic growth and national trade.
