VPA Wins Swachhata Award 2024

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has clinched first prize in the Swachhata Pakhwada Awards 2024, presented by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). The award was handed over by Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday in Mumbai.

M Angamuthu, Chairperson of VPA, said: “In 2023, VPA earned third place nationally and was the top performer among all major ports, reflecting our ongoing commitment to cleanliness. In 2024, we have risen to the top spot, showcasing our leadership in environmental care and sustainable port operations.”

He added that the award is a proud moment for the entire VPA team and highlights their dedication to Swachhata, green initiatives, and sustainable development. Under the Ministry’s guidance, VPA has successfully advanced three key programs: Jan Bhagidari for mass cleaning drives, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam for large-scale plantation, and Safai Mitra Suraksha to ensure the health and safety of sanitary workers.

The Swachhata Pakhwada Awards recognize ports, maritime institutions, and organizations for excellence in cleanliness, waste management, green practices, and community engagement. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Port Authority (Kolkata) won second prize, while Indian Maritime University secured third.
