Waltair Division launches ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign with focus on women and child health

The Waltair Division on Thursday launched the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign 2025 at the Divisional Railway Hospital in Visakhapatnam. The campaign will focus on health and nutrition for women, adolescent girls, and children, while also promoting clean and healthy surroundings.

The programme was inaugurated by Jyotsna Bohra, President of the East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO), and Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra. They also launched the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, a health programme built on the idea that healthy women lead to stronger families.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Bohra said the campaign is part of a national drive by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development, with the Ministry of Railways as a partner. “This is not only about screenings and check-ups. It is also about awareness and building healthier habits in communities,” he said.

The event was attended by Additional Divisional Railway Managers Manoj Kumar Sahoo (Operations) and E. Santharam (Infrastructure); Dr. Charumathi, CMS (Administration); Dr. Laxman Rao, CMS (Admn); senior officers; members of ECoRWWO; and staff. Doctors spoke with participants about nutrition, maternal health, and common illnesses. Several women also received health check-ups.

The Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar campaign will include screenings for anemia, hypertension, and diabetes, along with guidance on nutrition. Officials said special focus will be on adolescent girls, as anemia is a major concern. The aim is to help families take charge of their health with the right knowledge and support.

As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva drive, the Division will also hold cleanliness activities in railway stations, colonies, and nearby communities. Staff, volunteers, and families will join cleaning drives, waste segregation, and hygiene awareness programmes.

The campaign will run until October 2 and conclude on Gandhi Jayanti. Officials said it reflects Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of cleanliness as a shared duty. “Clean surroundings and good health go together. We want this message to reach every household in the Division,” an official said.
