Waltair Division organises Sundays on Cycle under Fit India Movement in Visakhapatnam
The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway on Sunday organised a special edition of the Khelo India scheme’s Fit India Movement with the campaign theme “Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”. The programme, titled Sundays on Cycle, encouraged citizens of Visakhapatnam to make fitness and exercise a regular part of their daily routine. The initiative aligns with the nationwide Fit India campaign that promotes health and wellness across communities.
The main highlight was a spirited cycle rally, organised by the East Coast Railway Sports Association – Waltair under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Bohra. Coordinated by Sports Officer M. Haranadh and General Secretary N. Usha, the rally began at the DRM’s residence and passed through the DRM Office, Wireless Colony, Dolphin Nose Colony, and Station Road. Officers, railway employees, children, and eminent sportspersons actively participated, creating a festive atmosphere in the city.
Adding a holistic dimension, a yoga session in Visakhapatnam was conducted at the DRM bungalow by the ECoR Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO), Waltair. Led by its president, Jyotsna Bohra, members and women staff performed asanas and received guidance on physical and mental well-being. The enthusiastic participation of women highlighted the inclusive nature of the initiative and reinforced the role of holistic health in the Fit India Movement 2025.
Addressing the participants, DRM Lalit Bohra recalled that the Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, was envisioned to make fitness an essential part of everyday life. He said the campaign has steadily expanded, engaging schools, workplaces, and communities through simple fitness challenges. He stressed that daily physical activity not only improves individual health but also contributes to a healthier and more productive nation.
Mr. Bohra also spoke about the Fit India Cycling Drive, launched in New Delhi on December 17, 2024. Initially a city-level initiative, it has grown into a vibrant nationwide campaign. The programme gained further recognition when the Prime Minister, during the 117th episode of Mann Ki Baat, praised Sundays on Cycle as a people-driven fitness effort that combines health with community participation.
Reflecting this broader vision, the Waltair Division included cycling, yoga, Zumba, and skipping in the day’s activities. Mr. Bohra noted that fitness does not require elaborate infrastructure but thrives on consistency and commitment. “When families, employees, and children come together for such activities, it transforms into a social movement, creating awareness and inspiring others to join,” he said. The division reaffirmed its commitment to promoting fitness in Visakhapatnam and sustaining the momentum of the Fit India campaign.
