Women urged to prioritise health amid lifestyle changes: Sandhya Rani
State Minister for Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Gummidi Sandhya Rani has called on women to prioritize their health, citing the rise in serious diseases due to changing food habits and excessive use of chemical fertilizers.
Inaugurating a newly constructed Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Salur, built for Rs 99.94 lakh, the Minister emphasized that lifestyle-related factors and chemical-intensive farming were contributing to ailments such as cancer.
“Women often neglect their own health while attending to household responsibilities,” Ms. Sandhya Rani said. “It’s essential to seek timely medical consultation and diagnostic tests, even for minor ailments.”
The Minister stressed that family well-being depended largely on the health of women and cautioned against the increasing preference for caesarean deliveries, citing potential long-term health issues.
Ms. Sandhya Rani reiterated the State government’s commitment to maternal and child welfare through initiatives such as the NTR Baby Kits programme and expressed concern over demographic trends, noting that the elderly population was growing while the youth population was declining.
Joint Collector C. Yashwanth Kumar Reddy said the UPHC building, pending for a long time, was completed on priority, and officials said the centre would offer specialized services for pregnant women and children, along with laboratory facilities for diagnostic tests.
