YSRCP alleges bias by officials, urges EC for free and fair polls

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Saturday accused the official machinery of showing blatant bias in favour of the ruling coalition ahead of the upcoming local body elections. Speaking to reporters here, Leader of the Opposition in the Council, Botcha Satyanarayana, demanded that the Election Commission step in to ensure free and fair elections.

Mr. Satyanarayana alleged that the police were selectively targeting YSRCP cadres by lodging false cases, while overlooking disruptive activities by TDP activists. “The police have clearly taken sides,” he said.

He also criticised the government’s decision to rearrange polling booths, calling it a deliberate tactic to disenfranchise YSRCP voters. “This mischievous move won’t succeed. The people stand firmly with the YSRCP despite these attempts to manipulate the elections,” he asserted.

Highlighting a worrying increase in drug trafficking, kidnappings, murders, and rising crimes against women and minors since the coalition government assumed office, Mr. Satyanarayana expressed serious concerns over law and order.

At the same time, he praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for fulfilling election promises and focusing on welfare schemes. “We appeal to the Election Commission to uphold the democratic spirit and conduct transparent elections,” he said.

The YSRCP’s strong statements come amid growing tensions in the run-up to the polls.
