Amaravati on Track to Become Safe, Fast-Growing Capital: Minister P. Narayana

Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is rapidly developing into one of the safest and fastest-growing cities in India, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana said on Wednesday. He dismissed what he called “malicious propaganda” questioning the city’s progress.

After inspecting ongoing housing projects at Nelapadu, Narayana accused certain vested interests of spreading false claims that Amaravati’s development exists only on paper. “People will not forgive those who persist in misleading campaigns. Let them come here and see the reality on the ground,” he said.

The Minister reviewed the construction of housing blocks for gazetted officers (Type-1 and Type-2) and Group-D employees. “Work is moving rapidly, with 13,000 workers and nearly 2,500 machines, including excavators, engaged daily,” he added.

Under Type-1 housing, four towers with 384 flats of 1,800 sq. ft. each are being built. Type-2 housing includes four towers with 336 flats of 1,500 sq. ft. For Group-D staff, six towers comprising 720 flats of 900 sq. ft. each are under construction. Slab works are nearing completion, and 50% of the units are expected to be ready by October 2. The remaining housing and infrastructure are scheduled for completion by March 2026.

The Minister also reviewed a major sewage treatment plant being developed alongside the housing projects. He emphasized that residential allotments will begin only after all construction work is completed.

Highlighting Amaravati’s broader infrastructure, Narayana said the city currently has 360 km of trunk roads, 1,500 km of layout roads, 4,000 residential buildings, and several iconic structures under development. “Amaravati is a safe city by design. Flood-prevention measures are being implemented with guidance from Dutch experts through canal and reservoir systems,” he said.

“Contrary to baseless claims, Amaravati is progressing according to plan. Within three years, the capital will be fully realised,” Narayana added.
