Quantum computing set to transform multiple sectors, says expert
Dr. V. Maheswara Rao, a leading expert in quantum computing and cryptography and Founder & CEO of Quinfosys, spoke about the power of quantum computing at GITAM (Deemed to be University) on Thursday.
In his lecture on “Quantum Computing and its Applications,” Dr. Rao explained how quantum computing can help the financial sector. It can improve trading strategies and allow accurate pricing of complex financial products. “Using quantum bits for faster data processing lets traders study market data in real time,” he said. “This helps them make quicker and more profitable decisions.”
Dr. Rao also discussed healthcare. Quantum computing can speed up drug discovery and development. This can lower research time and costs, benefiting patients. He added that it can improve weather and climate predictions. Quantum computers can handle large datasets and complex models faster and more accurately. This can help predict extreme weather and long-term climate trends.
He highlighted India’s progress in quantum teleportation and communication. These technologies are important for secure networks in national security, defense, and finance. Dr. Rao said India is moving toward a quantum internet and satellite-based quantum communication system by 2030.
The lecture was presided over by Dr. S. Ananta Ramakrishna, Dean of GITAM School of Science. Dr. T. Umadevi, Head of the Computer Science Department, and other senior faculty members also attended.
