Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat said Singapore’s tourism model offers valuable lessons in balancing innovation with sustainability. He made the remarks following a study visit to the city-state to explore strategies for strengthening Visakhapatnam’s tourism through sustainable growth, global best practices, and better visitor experiences.

“There is immense potential to replicate these models in Visakhapatnam while preserving our natural heritage,” Mr. Sribharat said.

During the visit, he toured Sentosa Island, Singapore’s premier tourist destination, known for its beaches, entertainment hubs, and world-class infrastructure. The Sentosa management briefed him on the island’s development and the strategies that have made it a global benchmark for tourism. Officials highlighted the importance of diversified attractions, international festivals, enriched visitor experiences, and strict safety and quality standards.

Mr. Sribharat also explored how artificial intelligence could support tourism and safety management in Visakhapatnam. “Technology-driven solutions can improve operational efficiency and enhance visitor satisfaction. AI could help manage crowd flow, ensure safety, and create personalized experiences,” he said.

Discussions also covered Singapore’s sustainable tourism practices, including eco-tourism, waste management, water conservation, and adherence to Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards. “Visakhapatnam’s natural attractions, like RK Beach and Kailasagiri, can be developed into world-class destinations while maintaining environmental responsibility,” he added.

The Sentosa team showcased the Sentosa Sensoryscape project, which uses virtual reality to create immersive experiences, showing how innovation can align with sustainability.

Highlighting Visakhapatnam’s potential, Mr. Sribharat said, “The city can host international events, promote eco-tourism, and emerge as a maritime and cultural hub in Asia. A holistic approach that combines infrastructure development with sustainable practices is key to attracting tourists, both domestic and international.”

He noted that lessons from Sentosa would guide strategies to position Visakhapatnam as a leading global tourism destination.
