Deputy Speaker calls for strict action to prevent food adulteration

Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Petitions, K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, has urged officials to take firm steps to ensure that the public receives safe food and clean drinking water. He said maintaining food quality is essential to protect public health.

The Legislative Committee on Petitions visited Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday to review public complaints. The team, led by Mr. Raju, included TDP State president A.P. Palla Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnukumar Raju, and Anakapalli MLA Konathala Ramakrishna. They met District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad at the Collectorate to discuss various issues.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the functioning of the Food Safety Department and examined complaints of food adulteration in both large hotels and small eateries. Mr. Raju stressed that regular monitoring and vigilance are crucial to prevent such violations.

He instructed officials to carry out frequent inspections and laboratory tests to detect adulteration. He also directed them to stop the use of artificial colours in fast food outlets and to ensure that meat shops follow hygiene standards.

Food Safety officials mentioned that their department faces a shortage of staff, which affects inspection work. Mr. Raju assured them that he would bring the issue to the notice of the government.

Earlier, the committee reviewed matters related to the Medical and Health Department. KGH Superintendent I. Vani gave a presentation on haemophilia care, child healthcare services, issuance of medical certificates, and NTR medical services.
