Power Restoration in Cyclone-Hit Areas Moving Swiftly: APEPDCL CMD

APEPDCL rolls out new electricity connection policy

The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has introduced a new policy to make electricity connections faster and more transparent. The initiative supports the “Ease of Living” programme promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Prudhvi Tej Immadi said the policy follows the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020. The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has updated its 2013 regulations to enable implementation.

Key Features:

  • Fixed charges for loads up to 150 kilowatts (kW).
  • Uniform fees for consumers within one kilometre of an existing network.
  • Rates based on average connection costs.
  • Application fees, security deposits, and other charges remain unchanged.

Connection Charges:

  • Domestic (LT-I): ₹800 for up to 500 watts; ₹12,600 per kW for 20–150 kW.
  • Commercial (LT-II): ₹600 for up to 250 watts; ₹1,000 for 251–500 watts; ₹12,600 per kW above 20 kW.
  • LT-III & LT-IV: ₹2,000 per kW for up to 20 kW; ₹12,600 per kW for higher loads.
  • High Tension (HT, 75–150 kW): ₹4,400 per kW. Consumers must arrange their own transformer.

Prudhvi Tej said the policy will simplify obtaining new connections and make costs more predictable across the state.
