CPR Training Programme Held at Andhra University
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.P. Rajasekhar said that knowing how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can save lives during medical emergencies. He was speaking after inaugurating a CPR training programme organized jointly by the Andhra University Health Centre, St. Luke’s College of Nursing, Vijaya Luke College of Nursing, and JDS Hospital.
Prof. Rajasekhar said that CPR is a vital skill that can be performed even before medical assistance arrives. He encouraged students to undergo proper training, noting that it equips them to help people in their communities. He also highlighted that the incidence of cardiac diseases is rising and that the ability to administer CPR can provide a crucial chance to save a life. The Vice-Chancellor added that the university has started extensive CPR training sessions and plans to train some students as “Master Trainers” to spread awareness further.
Dr. M. Srinivasa Rao, Anesthesia Physician at JDS Hospital, explained that immediate action during a heart attack improves the chances of survival. He stressed the importance of young people learning CPR.
Dr. N. Kiran Kumar, Head of the Orthopedics Department at JDS Hospital, said that every individual should have basic knowledge of CPR. He emphasized that public awareness and regular training programmes are essential for timely response during emergencies.
AU Medical Officer Dr. G.A.V. Rameshwar, JDS Doctor Dr. Sheik Haji Mastan, JDS Hospital Managing Director Peterson Luke, Joint Secretary of St. Luke’s Group of Educational Institutions M. Ashirvad Luke, Preetam Luke, AU Doctors Dr. K.S.N. Murthy and Dr. Balakrishna, and hospital staff participated in the programme. A live demonstration of CPR was conducted following the inaugural session.
